Peter Lynch: Source-Scoped Study Note

Company familiarity is a research starting point. An editorial study assignment with explicit source limits, not a hidden rulebook.

What the source can support

The publisher identifies One Up On Wall Street and its discussion of researching companies. We do not repeat a historical fund return as a learner result.

Original exercise for this learning question

Describe a familiar fictional company and list which financial or business evidence you would still need. Separate noticing a product from evaluating a business. Retain unanswered questions rather than translating familiarity into a purchase recommendation.

Work without a live account. Record the original reference, the observation boundary and the first answer before examining a later result. When a definition is unclear, mark the uncertainty; do not supply a favourable fact from hindsight or attribute your own invented parameter to the author.

The distinction to explain

A reading principle is not a current valuation conclusion, and a famous fund history is not evidence about this learner's future account.

Artifact and transfer review

Company question, source edition, evidence checklist and unsupported inference list.

Retain the baseline and correction as separate artifacts. For a fresh task, explain what was supplied, what you assumed and what remains unobserved. This review concerns your understanding of an evidence boundary, not the original trader's current performance or a reproduction of a private system.

Source Identity

Original operator, author or publisher reference

The scope above identifies whether the reference is an authored resource, provider interpretation, institutional description or catalogue identity. It does not imply paid access, a new account audit or a complete modern method.

Learning Concepts and Fresh Cases

Familiarity with a product can suggest a company to research, but it does not supply its financial condition or valuation. A business story and a quoted share price answer different questions. Keep current primary company evidence separate from impressions formed as a customer.

Invent a familiar company and list the financial, operating and competitive evidence still required. Give it one plausible favourable story and one plausible concern. Explain what would discriminate between them before drawing any valuation conclusion.

Retain GARP, growth, earnings relationships and company-category questions as subjects for the original book. A historical fund outcome is not evidence that a modern reader reproduced the research. The artifact should contain edition reference, business question, missing-data table and a bounded conclusion that does not become a purchase recommendation.

Retained Vocabulary Reading Trail

PEG ratio, GARP (Growth at a Reasonable Price), tenbagger, six stock categories, buy what you know, Magellan Fund.

This vocabulary preserves the earlier topic coverage. It is a list of research leads, not a verified private rulebook. Any numerical setting or author-specific parameter needs its original definition and scope before being used or attributed.
